Stuff I read this week

Bocchi the Rock! Vol. 1

You know, for a 4-koma style manga it’s real good? I’m not the biggest fan of that style of manga usually but you know, Bocchi is great. Is it as good as the anime? No. Categorically no. One million percently no. But there’s a cool spark here- it’s kinda amazing to see the source panels that sparked some of the standout moments of animation in the show… actually it’s kinda like reading an early storyboard that’s a few drafts off what ends up in the show? Which normally source manga doesn't feel like that? But yeah, it’s good, it’s interesting but wow that anime is incredible - it really elevates whats on the page, but you can still totally get how this inspired the animation team to go wild.

Alpi the Soul Sender Vol.1

Very beautiful book, an interesting and quiet story about the death of local gods. I really think this one is worth a read.

It’s published by Titan Comic’s ‘Titan Manga’ brand, which I guess is new? It’s the only book I have by them at least, and I’ve got thousands of these things! Anyways their copy is weird, right on the inside cover it says “PERFECT FOR FANS OF MAGICAL GIRLS” which is of course, a weird way to advertise a book, especially one like this! Maybe for madoka fans, people that want to read a slow meditation on the death of gods… this ain’t for precure fans, you know. It’s just strange.

Failed Princess Vol. 6.5 (Ebook Exclusive, post final volume extras)

It’s okay I guess. The new in-between .5 chapters are whatever- cute I guess, but don't add too much. The two after-story chapters are really cute though and some much-needed closure on the story - I do really wish there was more of the college-age stuff, give me a Failed Princesses +

Love’s in sight! Vol 3

Some really cute storylines in this volume, it’s surprising just how deep the little character arcs can get with how silly the rest of the stuff in this book can be, but it’s always careful to tie everything together and have everyone realise there’s something about their different experiences that connects them, it’s just real cute like that. Some really good idiots here

The Princess of Convenient Plot Devices, Vol. 3

Wow, this one’s all world-building and plot philosophy - it’s kinda cool? We learn why our favourite fujoshi is stuck in this world and how that's affected her mentally, it’s actually kinda neat? I actually didn’t expect this story to get this stuck in the weeds, it’s super cool!

Housekeeping Mage from Another World: Making Your Adventures Feel Like Home! Vol 5 (Ebook Exclusive)

Another thing I read this week which is an ebook exclusive (darn it I want it paperback!)

Well, this one’s the xenophobia arc I guess, it was pretty okay I guess. Cool that our protag-chan is so nice to be around she can smile and solve racism forever- wild times to be alive in another world. (This book is dumb and stupid and I love it PLEASE put it out in print THANK YOU)

Everyone’s Getting Married Vol. 2

Stupid idiot grown as adults Date kinda poorly, but things seem to be picking up at the end.. (unless…). It’s so painfully straight, but kinda fun to read

Bonus: Audiobooks
