also wow we have had some WILD cliffhanger episodes over the past few weeks but this one??!? THIS ONE?!?
I feel sick it’s so good
I love this show so much friends.
End of an era
Aqua's head is FULL of memories of Arima Kana glowing like a burning sun? SAME
It was a pretty cute manga, never expected it to get an anime adaptation
We got a space princess with a talking space poodle crash landing on earth ((?)I think) and becoming the live in dorm manager of a share house that offers free breakfast. The share house tennents include a pink haired underground idol that loves to drink, a smart child and his loser perma-unemployed sleezeball salaryman dad who knows all the hot gossip and a real small old dude who’s main character trait seems to be “nice dude”. They don’t seem to know she’s a space princess, they think her being an ex-convict it’s a MUCH better explanation for why she doesn’t know what the internet is or why she’s never seen a movie. Also her cooking is SO BAD that they have to hire in a conveniently point-of-view-character shaped chef to deal with the morning chores. It’s love at first sight. If you ever wondered what would happen if you threw maison ikkoku, tenchi muyo, love hina and some pastel crayons into a blender, you’d get this

also the EXACT SAME POSE. SAME FOOT PLACEMENT, same weird hair same brown DIFFERENT COACHES. This implies that 3D anime coaches do not exist across the multiverse in the same way that horses do.
anyways, here's the previous proof of a slightly different multiversal horse.
https://cohost.org/LotteMakesStuff/post/4129843-hold-up-the-same-f
OKAY so that clip from "Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear" and has the SAME HORSES as these ones in "The Aristocrat's Otherworldly Adventure: Serving Gods Who Go Too Far" episode 3. Checkmate atheists these two shows clearly take part in the SAME SHARED ISEKAI CINEMATIC UNIVERSE. Look at the nose patterns! THEY ARE THE SAME CREATURES.
Also, I'm pretty sure that's the same animation loop. ALSO I love how they didn't even bother to drag the horse along the road in this show as they walk.
UHHH NO COMMENT BUT YEAH IM FINE. I FOUND A BUNCH OF OTHER 3D HORSES WHICH I HAVE SCREENSHOTS OF NOW IN A SPECIAL "ANIME HORSE" FOLDER, IM SURE SOME OF THEM HAVE THE SAME BASE MESH BUT ITS HARD TO TELL DUE TO MATERIAL RENDERING DIFFERENCES, SO THEY ARNT A CONCLUSIVE MATCH LIKE THESE ONES. THERE IS ANOTHER HORSE THAT HAS SUPER BEEDY EYES WHICH I KNOW IVE SEEN ELSEWHERE BUT HAVE NOT FOUND A MATCH FOR YET. ALSO, EVERY HORSE IN THE EMINENCE IN SHADOW APPEARS TO BE A CLONE.
ITS SO GOOD - like even of you dont think your going to stick with it id recommend just watching the first episode as it totally works as a stand alone story pretty much - its just so cool to see how the show effortlessly convets one of the neatest depicitons of defness in manga to an audiovisual medium it RULES - anyways yuki is adorable if you have a Crunchyroll subscription (or are on my plex lol) give it a watch? it is WILD to me that Crunchyroll aren't pushing this REAL hard on their homepage
https://www.crunchyroll.com/series/GEXH3W2V7/a-sign-of-affection
anyways here's a long thing I wrote about how communication is rendered in the manga - the anime is JUST as good
https://cohost.org/LotteMakesStuff/post/3807504-i-will-take-literall
It’s WILD how almost every single manga I’ve singled out recently and been like “yeah this one is actually INCREDIBLY GOOD trust me bro” is getting an anime adaptation IM REAL GOOD AT PICKING THEM anyways A Sign of Affection is real good- like criminally good for a het romance, I literally just finished reading volume 4 10 mins ago and had a great time.
So much of what makes it great is how it uses typography to represent Yuki’s deafness, will be interesting to see how they deal with that in animation. I’m hyped!
Maria does NOT look old/sickly enough and she FOR SURE DOES NOT SOUND SICK ENOUGH. You cant just chuck some cough sound effects over that lady shes supposed to be SO DEATHLY ILL from her curse, yet pretending to be strong and okay - she just sounds WAY to healthy. LET SICK GIRLS HAVE THEIR MOMENT
SHe just looks & sounds kinda grumpy - which SHE IS. but like, go to town with that you know?
Feels like the anime was written BY idiots, and the original novel was written FOR idiots.... if that makes sense. But yeah, the per-episode animation budget was clearly about $10 they found down the back of a sofa, so they've done pretty dang good.

What the heck?! Why did they make it a timeleap story? What's going on here!?! the heck!? I did wonder how they were going to adapt the manga, but like - totally ignoring EVERYTHING that happens in it, creating a new lead character and inserting some supernatural time shenanigans was not something id have guessed... its... fine?? i guess? Fingers crossed this helps make the argument for some English language publisher to pick up the book i guess.
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG its SO straight. It's SO OVERWHELMINGLY STRAIGHT (derogatory). It's wild how differently straight the anime is to the light novel, its like... passively so? In the book Sei can't help but internally monologue literally ALL the time about how hot literally every single guy around her is - So it's nice to NOT HAVE THAT GOING ON in the anime adaption - but its still very straight. I did like the stuff in this first episode about finding coffee in the magical world tho. That's peek isekai shit for me and i love it.
Actually, its homophobic that i have to wait a whole week for a second episode.

(there's also 'Spy x Family season 2' AND 'Frieren', which I'm hyped about... and I'm looking forward to 'Im in Love with the Villainess' as well... i think i might eat well at the end of this year)

they are 1000% scraping my brain these days and just animating EVERY series i love its wild
Gets stabbed to death in front of a convenience store whilst trying to save some young girls from a knife wielding delinquent (dang thoes kids are going to need years of expensive therapy for this) - 🔪💀 6.5/10 pretty strong death, but he dosnt even make it into the convivence store which must have been really disappointing. he missed out on his last earth capitalism pre death
It was revealed in series 1 that god made a little mistake and accidentally dropped a lighting without checking if anyone was there first - 🌩️⚡😵 5/10 This confims that basically everyone ever killed by lightning gets magic powers in their next life. Good to know.
This is 100% a commuter isekai, theres a two way gate to another world and the protagonist can travel freely. You could say that any sense of self worth this dweeb had was totally murderkilled before getting cheat skills though - 🤷 0/10 the death of a guys ego dosnt score any points on my isekai rubric
Drowned stuck in a barrel by his weird dad's naked cult - his final thoughts are "if gods are real, i hope they reincarnate me in a world without gods or religion", gets reborn in a world without gods or religion. Its very unique but uhhh real weird - 🌊☠️ 4/10
Does the whole jumping Infront of a car to save a lil kid thing. oops - 👩👦🚚 8.5/10 vehicular manslaughter should always score high imo. The extra .5 is consolation points (as hes a little bit sad he wont get to play the new Armored Core game lol)
Pushed off a balcony after FINALLY getting her university acceptance letter, such joy followed by such terror, poor girl. Ends up in a Dukes Mansion (obviously) - 🌠📖 9/10 just perfectly executed.
Protag-kun (and his entire school class) get summoned (for a second time, i guess) to Another World. - ❌ 0/10 non fatal no score.
As a daily sign in bonus for playing WAY TO MUCH of a fantasy VRMMO god, who i guess is a game developer in this world teleports our protagonist into a fantasy world. Oh, and shes stuck in a bear Kigurumi. obviously. - 🐻 1/10 if a no death commuter isekai setting scores a zero, this one way summon into a videogame world, stuck for ever must be at least a 1 as its one way. You aren't ever going home kuma-oneesan.
Some paladin dude in dies(?) fighting a BIG FUCK OFF NECROMANCER SKELETON BOSS, gets reverse isekai'ed into modern day Shinjuku, Tokyo. - ☠️🗼🏢 10/10 I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE FROM THE MAGIC WORLD GET ISEKAIED INTO TOKYO THATS THE BEST GENRE
Elda is an elf that was summoned into the human world 400 years ago and enshrined as a goddess into a Shinto shrine. Likes RPGs and Manga - 100/10 Shes perfect i would die for her (read: get her red bull cans when she asks for them)
A doctor gets murder killed whilst looking after a young idol who is secretly pregnant, gets reborn as her child- 🏥🧑⚕️💀10/10
I BELIEVE THIS LIST IS COMPREHENSIVE. YOU ARE WELCOME.
i have to pause anime A LOT of the time for this very reason. this first episode was REAL bad for that lol. I dont mean the show is bad (I ENJOYED MY STAY), just i am PHYSICALLY UNABLE to watch socially awkward things continuously. Im sure this is very normal.
Can all the AI dweebs just shut up forever and go invent chobits for me? I do not care about any of this AI stuff, and I will not care until they invent chobits. I want a ‘laptop’ chobit, they will be my friend and I’ll give them a pencil and ask them to draw maps out for me ‘because it’s cuter than using a printer’ which is a totally normal and sane thing to want in 2023. Obviously we all want paper maps hand draw by a ai entity that can only just hold a pencil (because the PENCIL IS BIGGER THAN HER). It’s cuter like that. ALSO I refuse to engage in any metanarrative about how falling in love with cool robots is bad actually, and how actually it’s cringe to be friends with the computer. That part of the plot is for cowards. I will be friends with the computer fuck you.
also dang with this lastest episode i can 1000% imagine the discourse this show could generate with a different group of weird way-to-online people on the internet and I'm SUPER glad i haven't seen any of it. its cute, its trashy - please don't ever subject me to discourse about how it's problematic. if i see that i WILL spontaneously combust
Its pretty good? I don't tend to watch shows in the "violent criminal has to raise a soft cute babychild" genre, but yeah pretty good! (although i guess spy x family was kinda that too huh lol). The animation is legit excellent and the writing is goofy as heck, excited to see how it goes! The main issue with the show is DAMN its got way too much straight energy for a show that's about two male 'buddies' living together and raising an adoptive child.
Dies in hospital of 'a terminal disease' - Heart failure? 💀 4/10 pretty weak
Mode of death not specified (so far), but Saitou feels fulfilled. ❓ 0/10
Crushed to death by falling debris, after using magic spiritual energy to pull a burning building down on himself(on purpose) after being hunted by his favourite student in ancient Japan... i think(??) 🔥🏠 4/10
Fell off a cliff after kicking a creepy boy in the nuts ☠️ 9/10
Mode of death not specified. ❓ 0/10 (will update if its ever specified, but i don't think it is in the novels)
Died in his sleep due to being overworked in his office job. Classic 🧑💻☠️ 7/10
Killed by a truck. The dude knows what he's about. 🚚 10/10
Mode of death not applicable ❌ 0/10 - this is basically a villainess isekai but instead of being reincarnated, our two modern-day Japanese protagonists just get to talk to videogame characters. Neat twist.
Dies peacefully of old age, surrounded by his friends - reborn as a girl 🛌💀 9/10
Not dead, merely summoned to another world. What a loser 🍳 0/10 (neat dog friend tho)

It was pretty good, if also (literally) PAINFULLY straight. Like it hurts my brain it's so straight. My biggest hope for this series is that some teenage shoujo fan was watching it and learned the real importance of like, communicating with your partners though, because dang literally every dramatical plot point was "and then they didn't talk to each other for a week and got anxiety disease". Still, I had a time with this one. A time was indeed had.
